thruuu: Test this SEO content optimization tool

“Fly, flew, flown.” “Buy, bought, bought.” “Throw, threw, thrown.”

Do these words bring back fond memories of irregular verbs from your grammar homework?

Those irregular verbs can make you crazy!

Even if you weren’t a nerd about English, though, you’ll immediately recognize the unusual spelling our subject of the day: “thruuu.”

Behind this name, spelled with three “u”s, lies an SEO content optimization tool with far more than three tricks up its sleeve.

In this new article, you’ll find out what thruuu is, how to use it, and what we think of this SEO tool. After reading it, you’ll know everything about thruuu.

What is thruuu?

thruuu is an SEO tool made in France, created in 2019 by Frenchman Samuel Schmitt.

On its website, it boasts over 50,000 users, including marketing agencies, SaaS solutions, and enterprises. Among its most prestigious customers are meetic, OVHcloud, and Wix.

Thruuu’s promise is simple: “Better SEO. Faster.”

To help you do just that, the tool offers a range of particularly useful features, which we’re going to look into without further ado.

What services does thruuu offer?

thruuu offers four main functionalities:

  • SERP analysis: For a given keyword, you can examine Google search results to quickly identify popular topics and observe the structure of content already positioned. The tool extracts a whole range of data from the SERP (Google’s search results page), enabling you to improve your content.
  • Content brief creation: An editorial brief generator lets you create SEO briefs to share with your editorial teams. Thanks to AI and Google data, you can also generate article outlines.
  • Topic clustering: A keyword grouping feature lets you identify different topic clusters from a list of keywords.
  • Page auditing: An SEO audit tool compares your content with that of your competitors and provides you with optimization suggestions.

In addition to these four main functions, thruuu’s website also offers a range of useful free tools:

  • A web page comparison tool
  • A word counter
  • A tool for checking the frequency of keywords on a page
  • A text extractor, to extract the content of a web page
  • An image extractor
  • A ChatGPT brief assistant

Who is thruuu for?

As you can see, thruuu offers a wide range of features, all geared towards the same goal: to create better, SEO-optimized content, faster.

The tool’s website highlights four main targets:

  • SEO experts
  • Copywriters
  • Agencies
  • SaaS companies

The tool thus appears to be aimed primarily at experienced users who want to improve their SEO by creating quality content that meets search intent.

How to use thruuu: the main features

Overview of the thruuu dashboard

When you log on to thruuu, you’re presented with a streamlined, ergonomic dashboard.

A sidebar on the left of your screen lets you navigate between the various options on offer:

  • Analyze: This is where you can access the SERP analysis tool, retrieve your SERP analyses, and also access an SERP comparison tool as well as a position comparator
  • Content brief: This menu allows you to create briefs and editorial brief templates, retrieve your previously created briefs and templates, and create prompts for the creation of article outline templates
  • Cluster: In this menu, you can create topic clusters and retrieve your existing clusters
  • Optimize: To access thruuu’s page auditing functionality
  • API & Bulk tools: This menu, dedicated to developers, lets you use the thruuu API and a bulk SERP analysis tool
  • Account: To manage your subscriptions and account settings

At the bottom of this sidebar, you’ll find a link to the help center and a contact form to call on support if you need it.

Finally, at the top of your dashboard, three buttons provide quick access to thruuu’s main features: “Analyze,” “Brief,” and “Cluster.”

Are these options making your mouth water? Let’s take a look at how to use them.

SERP analysis

From your dashboard, click on “Analyze,” which will land you on thruuu’s SERP Analyzer.

This is where you’ll be able to ask the tool to analyze search results pages for a given keyword.

This tool will enable you to find out what content is ranking for the keywords you’re targeting and to examine its structure, so you can draw inspiration from it and overtake your competitors in the SERP.

To launch the search, enter the relevant keyword in the field provided.

For the example, let’s assume that I want to write an article on the best WordPress plugins.

Select a country and possibly a location, the targeted search engine (e.g. Google.com), the number of results to be analyzed (from 10 to 100), the language, and the device (desktop or mobile), then click the “Analyze the SERP” button.

After a few seconds’ grinding, the results are in!

On your screen, you now have access to a wide range of information, including:

  • Average number of words and images in positioned publications
  • Average PageRank (a domain’s authority index)
  • The latest update
  • An overview of the SERP, with key information for each search result
  • Topics (frequently used terms)
  • The outline of each result (URL and hn headings)
  • Other questions people ask (PAA: People Also Ask )
  • An analysis of the titles, descriptions, and images used by positioned content
  • Videos positioned in the SERP for your query

Finally, on the right, AI-based tools allow you to examine the most popular H2 & H3 tags and analyze similar content in the top 10 results to provide you with both summaries of the existing content and new content ideas not yet covered by your competitors.

In our example, the average length of content positioned on the query “best free wordpress themes” is 1151 words! So I don’t want to be too long-winded if I’m going to try and position myself.

It’s also worth noting that the average PageRank is high (71), so not just any site can hope to reach the top of the SERP.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the tabs offered in the “Search Engine Result Page (SERP)” insert on this same interface.

Overview

In the search results preview, you can click on a search result to open a panel containing various information about the content in question, such as:

  • Date of publication and modification
  • Number of links on the page, as well as outgoing links
  • The types of structured data (rich snippets)present
  • Meta title and meta description
  • Heading hierarchy
  • Frequently used terms

Topics

The “Topics” tab lets you see at a glance what terms are frequently used in the content analyzed, and how the content uses them.

Simply click on a term to see how it is used in the different content.

This gives you an overview of the words you need to use if you hope to overtake your competitors.

Outline

This tab lets you examine the structure of all the content analyzed on the SERP (h1, h2, h3), for inspiration.

Questions

In this fourth, particularly useful tab, you’ll find extracts from “People Also Asked,” where available, as well as questions found in content positioned on the keyword you’re targeting.

Creating content briefs

Thruuu’s second main feature is the creation of content briefs.

Its aim? To enable you to create complete content briefs for your team or customers in just a few minutes.

Create briefs with thruuu

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Access the brief creation functionality by clicking on the “Brief” button at the top of your dashboard.
  2. Start by entering your main keyword.
  3. Specify your target audience, search engine, language, and device.
  4. Define the number of results you wish to analyze (the tool recommends you examine at least 20), and the template to use (default: “thruuu,” but note that you can create your own templates).
  5. Start brief creation.

A few seconds later, a pre-filled content brief is generated, containing various sections:

  • Writing guidelines. In the “Search intent / Customer journey” field, you can add information on the search intent to be addressed in the article and on the customer journey, for example.
A button allows you to generate this information in one click, thanks to AI.
  • SERP metrics
  • Competitor analysis
  • Titles of content positioned on the target keyword
  • Content header (title, description, slug, tone, etc.)
  • Outline. When you open the outline editor, four tabs allow you to:
    • View the headings of your competitors and click on them to add them to your outline
    • Generate an article outline using AI (you can select the type of article to be written: how-to guide, case study, product review, etc.)
    • See the most frequently used headings
    • Explore the most frequently asked questions

Open the outline editor. Add headings to your article.

  • Questions to be answered in the content (taken directly from Google’s “People Also Asked”)
  • Terms frequently used by your competitors

Once your brief is ready, you can easily share it with recipients via a public link.

Note that you can create your own brief templates, to display more or less information in your content briefs. To do so, click on Content briefs > My brief templates in the left-hand sidebar, then on the “Create new template” button.

Create topic clusters

thruuu also has a feature to help you develop a topic cluster strategy.

A topic cluster consists of a set of pages around a specific topic, all linked to each other and to a main page.

The idea behind this strategy is to create pages on complementary themes, while avoiding cannibalization (i.e., avoiding your pages competing with each other on the same keyword).

There are 4 steps to creating a topic cluster with thruuu:

  1. Access the cluster creation functionality by clicking on the “Cluster” button at the top of your dashboard.
  2. Upload a spreadsheet containing your keyword list (by exporting from a tool such as Semrush, Ahrefs, or Google Search Console, for example).
  3. Define your target market and device (desktop or mobile).
  4. Enter a domain to track (optional, but useful: enter your domain to track your positions on the keywords in your list).
  5. Start cluster creation.

Note that the number of keywords you can cluster depends on the license you’ve chosen (up to 14,000 keywords with the “Agency” license).

thruuu analyzes the search results for the defined keyword and market, and groups them by search intent. The result is a list of content topics.

For each cluster, you can:

  • See if you’re already positioned on the main query (provided you’ve activated domain tracking when creating the cluster)
  • Examine the list of keywords grouped into different clusters
  • View the average PageRank of positioned content
  • For each cluster, dedicated buttons let you:
    • Analyze the SERP (via an interface similar to the SERP analysis functionality we looked at earlier in this article)
    • Create a pre-filled content brief
    • Analyze search intent

For the purposes of this article, let’s imagine that we want to create a cluster around WordPress hosting.

The panel on the right contains various filters for viewing the clusters you’re interested in. For example, you can choose to display only those clusters in which you are not yet positioned.

Finally, to select the clusters that interest you, click on the heart in the top right-hand corner.

In-depth page audits

Now we come to thruuu’s fourth and final main feature: page auditing.

Go to Analyze > My SERP analyses and click on the analysis you’re interested in.

Click on the “Audit URL” button to access the page audit functionality and enter the address of the page you wish to analyze.

thruuu will then compare your content with the SERP and give you recommendations.

Here’s what you’ll find in the various tabs that appear:

  • Overview: General recommendations for optimizing your content (number of words and images, PageRank, structure, etc.), which you can filter by type or category
  • Competitors: An overview of competing pages, with their PageRank and word and image counts
  • Title and Description: An analysis of your content’s meta title and meta description
  • Outline: A comparison of your content’s headings (h2, h3) with those of your competitors
  • Frequent terms: An analysis of the terms most frequently found in the top 10 SERP results (the tool compares the number of occurrences of these terms in your content with the number of occurrences found by your competitors)
  • Related searches and PAA: an overview of related searches and other questions people ask, and their occurrences on your page

On the right, the “SERP Insights” insert lets you compare your content’s metrics with the average of the top 10 competing pages on the SERP.

So much for our presentation of thruuu’s main features. Now, what do you do if you encounter a problem when using the tool?

That’s what we’ll be looking at in the next section.

Customer service and support

If you need help using thruuu, don’t panic: you won’t be left out in the cold.

The creator of thruuu has made a whole range of free resources available on the tool’s website:

Email support is included with all three of thruuu’s paid packages.

As soon as you create your account, you’ll receive a series of friendly emails to help you use the tool and discover thruuu’s various features.

How much does thruuu cost?

A free offer from thruuu lets you see what the tool has to offer by testing out all its features.

Three premium packages are also available:

  • Starter ($13/month), which gives you access to 75 credits per month
  • Pro ($33/month), which gives you access to 250 credits per month
  • Agency ($66/month), which gives you access to 700 credits per month

About thruuu’s premium offers, please note the following points:

  • You can opt for a monthly or annual subscription. In the latter case, your bill will be 30% lower than with a monthly subscription (for example, the “Pro” package costs $33/month instead of $49/month if you pay once a year rather than monthly).
  • All packages give access to all the tool’s main functions. On the other hand, the more expensive an offer, the more credits it gives you, enabling you to carry out actions on your dashboard.
  • Each month, your credit balance is increased, depending on the package you have chosen (for example, if you opt for the “Starter” package, you will be entitled to 75 credits each month, and you keep any unused credits from one month to the next).
  • Email support is available with all paid packages.

Which package should I choose?

When choosing your package, it goes without saying that you should take your budget and needs into account.

To do so, take a look at the limits of each package and compare them on the thruuu rates page to select the package that best suits your needs.

Note that if none of the formulas proposed suits you, you can also contact support to benefit from a personalized formula.

What are the alternatives to thruuu?

While the SEO content creation tools market is full of interesting tools, it won’t be easy to find a real alternative to thruuu.

There are a number of solutions that offer similar functionality, such as:

However, these solutions are more expensive and include other features than thruuu, so they are not comparable.

If you’re looking for a tool that combines SERP analysis, content brief creation, cluster creation, and page analysis, you should give thruuu a try.

Our final opinion

You’ve come to the end of this article on thruuu. So, having examined the tool, what do you think?

  • Advanced, practical functionality, with AI-based tools for even greater speed.
  • Easy to learn, with an ergonomic dashboard.
